Happy New Year

Babies!

A litter of puppies was born three weeks ago and I just realized I haven’t been posting their photos every week, so I’ll use this post to play some catch up.

Newborns! They were less than 24 hours old when these were taken. Ginger is really good about letting her babies be handled, probably because she’s too tired to care.

Week two and they’re actually starting to look like baby dogs. The first week they were just a wiggly pile but they’re sorta crawling around a little bit now. Ginger is still pretty tolerant but is definitely more protective over her puppies.

Week three, taken this afternoon. Everyone’s eyes are open and they’re all finally super soft and fuzzy like puppies are supposed to be. They’re walking and crawling and playing and barking now. Oh, and they’re aware enough to try and chew on fingers and noses too, which means puppy breath!

More to come so stay tuned!

At the office

Did some headshots for Kelli tonight, who had a lot of trouble giving me a serious face. She had a great smile so I think it worked out okay.

Last week was something really different for me. Ordinarily families and kids aren’t my thing at all, not for any particular reason since I’ve never done it before, I just didn’t think it was something I’d ever want to do. Turns out it was lots of fun and I’m really happy with the photos.

If I’m honest though, kids are a complete mystery. I understand dogs. I know how to relate to them and how to work them during a shoot. Children…not so much. If it was something I did often I’d eventually figure them out but for now I need lots of help from mom and dad.

Somewhere out in the middle of nowhere

Sunday was supposed to be spent riding Ape Canyon, up near Mt. St. Helens. Things didn’t go quite according to plan so we just climbed a bunch instead. I tried bringing my 5D along, with the theory being that the beautiful views deserved a real camera. Since I can cart it around for 10 hours at a wedding and not mind the weight I didn’t think it’d be a big deal…I was wrong. From now on I’ll stick to my little compact camera instead.

Happy birthday to me

Wednesday was my birthday and I wanted to get a really cool ride in somewhere. I always go to the same places so I convinced a couple of my teammates to take me to Syncline, an awesome network of trails out in the Columbia Gorge. The climb to the top seemed to go on forever, and it was cold and damp as hell, but the view was worth it.

Thanksgiving Day was another tough two hour ride, this time out at Scappoose. My legs really appreciate the time off today and tomorrow, but on Sunday we’re gonna make a run at Ape Canyon. Now that cross season is over I need to start putting down big, fat base miles. 24 Hours of Adrenalin at Laguna Seca will be here before I know it.
